Beyond Politics: Pope Leo's Cardinal Cupich Problem
Monday, a press release was issued from the office of Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, suggesting that the U.S. has lost its moral clarity and threatening further action from the Catholic Church at the “clear direction” of Pope Leo XIV.
The statement by Cupich, Washington DC’s Cardinal Robert McElroy and Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark, were filled with such carefully crafted generalities they smacked of the worst kind of partisan politics.
